How Hannah passed the LCB exam on her first try

Passing the licensed customs broker exam is no easy feat.

Historically, the exam has a 15% pass rate, and most test-takers pass only on their second or third attempt.

It is rumored to be the most difficult nationally-administered exam, even more difficult than the bar exam.

Generally, it takes over 100 hours of study and three-to-four months of focused study in order to pass.

In this video, I interview Hannah Royston, a global trade compliance specialist at Allyn International who recently passed the April 2025 exam on her first try!

Left: Hannah Royston and host Vinh Ho.

We discuss Hannah's journey from her high school formative years in Delaware, her college career at Florida Gulf Coast Univeristy and how she came across her current employer Allyn International, trade compliance, and the customs broker exam.

Topics covered:

  • What the exam is about

  • What her study routine was

  • What study program guide did she use

  • What you need to do to pass the exam

  • Her advice on studying and taking the exam

  • The process to becoming a customs broker

  • What the benefits are of having your license

If you're considering taking the exam or want to know more, this interview is for you!
